Causes of Excessive Hair Growth
Excessive hair growth can be caused by a variety of things. For some people it’s not so much that the hair growth is excessive, as it is that the hair is coarse or dark. This makes the hair seem much thicker than it really is. As well as this, when hair growth is dark it’s usually highly visible on people of all skin tones, even if the growth is relatively sparse.
In some people, hormone imbalances can cause excessive hair growth. In women, for example, conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome cause unwanted hair growth, often on the face, and sometimes on the back or chest. Men with high levels of testosterone may have thicker or coarser hair on the face, chest, feet, or back. Certain kinds of medications, such as anti-seizure medications, and corticosteroids for the treatment of inflammatory diseases, can also cause excessive hair growth.
Help is Available
Many people with excessive hair growth find it uncomfortable for one or more reasons. One problem is simply that many people feel embarrassed about having hair in unwanted places, such as the face or back. For some, these feelings can lead to intimacy problems, and some people may even avoid relationships altogether. And sometimes, if the hair is thick enough, it may even cause discomfort, or lead to skin or hygiene problems.
If you suffer from excessive hair growth, there’s no need to suffer any longer, and no need to resort to painful waxing and plucking, or other temporary solutions such as shaving.
