What is permanent laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal uses the light energy from a laser to remove unwanted body hair. Shaving and waxing only produce temporary results and usually only on smaller areas.

What does the laser hair removal procedure entail?

The area is shaved and cleaned, and an anaesthetic cream applied. The laser then produces pulsed beams of highly concentrated light which is absorbed by the pigment located within the hair follicles which inturn damages the surrounding follicle.

The session can last from a few minutes to an hour depending on the size of the area being treated.

How many treatments are needed?

Generally speaking you will need 6-8 sessions to achieve permanent results. This will depend on several factors including skin and hair colour. At Dermadoc we will discuss this with you at the consultation.

Are there any side effects?

Laser treatments are safe if carried out by an experienced clinician. You may get swelling and redness over treated areas which subside within a short time. This will be discussed at your consulatation.
