Frequently Asked Questions

What is Botox?

Botox is a purified protein that is derived from botulinum toxin which is injected into the facial muscles to reduce lines and wrinkles. Botox has been widely used in the medical sector for over 30 years however since becoming FDA approved in 2002 it has become increasingly popular in the cosmetic market.

How does the Botox work?

Botox comes in a small vial which needs to be mixed with saline before it can be used. Once prepared using the correct amount of saline it is then ready to be injected in very small doses using a fine needle. Only a small number of injection points are needed to treat areas on the face. This then blocks the nerve impulses which causes the muscles to relax. As the muscles weaken the skin lines and wrinkles soften up leaving you with a natural, fresh and more relaxed appearance.

How long does the treatment take?

It usually takes 5-10 minutes to complete the however this maybe a little longer if you have the consultation on the same day before your treatment.

How long do the effects of Botox last?

Botox is known to last between 3-6 months on average however it may differ from person to person. At Dermadoc Cosmetic Clinic we always provide aftercare and advice to improve the longevity of the treatment.

Will my skin look worse after Botox wears off?

Botox will not make your skin look worse. As the Botox wears off after 3-6 months, your lines will gradually start to reappear.

This will indicate a new treatment is required. At Dermadoc Cosmetic Clinic, we offer a free top-up two weeks following your Botox treatment.

Which areas are commonly treated with Botox on the face?

  • Botox is most commonly effective in smoothing lines in the upper face:
  • Eye Wrinkles (Crow’s Feet)
  • Frown Lines (Glabellar)
  • Forehead Lines (Worry Lines)
  • Eyebrow lifts
  • Botox can also be injected into the lower face for other indications such as:
  • Correction of Gummy smile’s
  • Smokers lines
  • Jowl’s
  • Facial slimming

What are the main side effects of Botox?

Side effects are rare. When used in cosmetic treatments its only used in very small doses. You may experience some temporary redness and swelling which usually subsides within 30 minutes. Slight bruising is a small risk with any injectable procedure.

What happens after your botox treatment?

We advise you carry on with your daily activities immediately after leaving the clinic, however there are some ground rules to take home:

Avoid strenuous activity like the Gym for 4 hours after treatment Avoid excessive sun or tanning for 7 days We also advise the use of SPF 50 sunblock to help protect your skin from sun damage after the treatment and to preserve the effect. We also offer a 2 week check where you may require a “top up” dosage.

Will Botox give me that fake “frozen” look?

When injected by an experienced cosmetic doctor you will be able to discuss what your requirements are. The dosage of the Botox can be altered to give you a “natural” look or a more “frozen” look. With the correct injection technique and dosage, the exepreienced doctor can tailor the treatment to your needs.

Will my skin feel any different after treatment?

Botox has no effect on the sensation of the skin as it only relaxes the muscles under the skin.

At what age can I start having Botox?

At Dermadoc we only treat patients who are over 18 years of age.

How much does it cost?

Prices start at £150. Please refer to our prices page for more information.

What is a Dermaroller?

A Dermaroller is a medical device consisting of a roller with very fine needles attached. This advanced medical skin-needling system works by stimulating the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally.

This helps to create smoother, brighter and healthier looking skin by breaking down the old scarred skin.

How does the Dermaroller work and is it painful?

Dermaroller treatment is one of the preferred methods for treating acne scars, stretch marks and fine lines in the skin. The Dermaroller medical device introduces thousands of micro needles in the skin at a certain depth to stimulate the production of both collagen and elastin.

Firstly, a topical anaesthetic such as emla is applied to numb the skin making it a more comfortable and virtually pain-free procedure.

After 30 minutes of applying the topical anaesthetic the treatment itself will take a further 20 minutes to complete.

While there are several other skin treatments on the market claiming to create similar results, they are unable to penetrate the skin in the same way and depth that the Dermaroller can, and therefore can’t produce the same remarkable results.

What is the down time following Dermaroller treatment?

You should expect mild redness of the face which tends to settle down within 12-24 hours following the procedure. Most people resume their usual daily activities the following day after treatment.

Can Dermaroller be used on all skin colours?

Dermarollers are considered to be safe for all skin types. We advise you consult with your cosmetic doctor to discuss your needs.

How long before I can see any improvement in my skin?

Your body will naturally start to regenerate and repair the skin, working below the surface. Naturally, new collagen and new skin cells are produced and blood supply is enhanced.

It can take approximately 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair and the process will nicely continue over the following months, providing you with natural and long lasting rejuvenation.

How many treatment sessions are usually required?

It is always recommended that 2-3 sessions are carried out to achieve optimal results.

What other areas can the Dermaroller be used for?

We usually find that Dermarollers are successful in treating:

  • Acne scars
  • Décolletage
  • Stretch marks
  • Sun damage
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Facial Rejuvenation and tightening
The Dermaroller has been featured by most prominent media sites, magazines and on TV and radio and has become popular among the world of celebrities.

Over the years we have also had many post-birth mothers come in to get their pre-baby looks back by opting for the safe and effective Dermaroller treatment at Dermadoc Cosmetic Clinic London.

Dr Firhaas Tukmachi and his professional medical team at Dermadoc offer Dermaroller treatments for a competitive price of £200 per session.

Agera peels are the way to go when it comes to tired, dull and damaged skin- your face will be left feeling as soft as baby skin. Agera peels are suitable for most skin types; targeting the deepest layer of your skin, bringing out new, fresh and revitalised layers of skin.

Agera peels are classed as medical skin treatment which can produce outstanding results that you will never find in any commercial cosmetic peel or facial.

How safe is the Agera skin peel?

The Agera skin peel is safe and millions of procedures are regularly performed. For optimal results, a consultation with your cosmetic expert to assess your skin condition and determine whether your skin will be suitable for the peel is essential.

What is the procedure for the Agera skin peel?

Following your consultation with your cosmetic doctor, you will meet your therapist who will explain the procedure from start to finish and the results expected:

Step 1: Your therapist will place a headband on your head and clean your face; wiping off any excess make up so your face is fresh and ready to go.

Step 2: Your therapist will place soothing eye shields. She will prepare the different range of Agera products to apply to your skin.

Step 3: Your therapist will apply the Agera peel to your skin; ensuring all of the face and neck is smoothed evenly with the peel.

Step 4: Your therapist will apply cold wet gauze (this will activate the ingredients of the Agera peel).

Step 5: If you are having the combined Agera peel with Microdermabrasion; then your therapist will administer your Microdermabrasion treatment. If you are not, she will complete the Agera peel treatment by applying essential moisturisers (including SPF 50) to your skin.

What should I expect following the Agera skin peel?

You will feel your skin become warm and itchy and that is the point where you know that the Agera peel has taken effect and is working best on your skin.

After your first Agera peel treatment your face may look slightly rosy and feel warm (like it would after a vigorous gym session). If you touch your skin, it will feel smooth and soft and you will leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

It’s essential to start using SPF 50 immediately following and every morning after your treatment to maintain your newly revitalised skin.
Please note, Agera skin peels come in different strengths to suit each skin type and tolerance.

For further treatment, your cosmetic doctor may put you on a higher strength Agera peel (considering your skin tolerates the first session of Agera peel).

How long does the Agera skin peel treatment take?

The Agera skin peel should take approximately 30 minutes.

If combined with Microdermabrasion treatment; it will take approximately 45minutes in total.

How many Agera Skin peels will I need?
During your complimentary consultation, your cosmetic Doctor will assess your skin condition and discuss your desired outcome from using the Agera peel.

Our Cosmetic Doctors at Dermdoc Cosmetic Clinic usually recommend a minimum of 3 Agera peels or a maximum of 5 sessions depending on your skin.

The treatment of Excessive Sweating of (Armpit, Palms and Soles of feet) is called Hyperhidrosis using Botox.

What is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is the medical term to describe excessive sweating. We all sweat in order to regulate our body temperature. We can sweat from any part of the body, however the most common areas are the underarm, feet and palms. Some people tend to sweat a lot more than others and this is where the term hyperhidrosis comes from.

What causes excessive sweating?

There is sometimes a medical explanation for excessive sweating such as hormone imbalance or thyroid problems, however most of the time it is unexplained. Other medical theory suggests that it may be genetic.

The process of sweating involves the sweat gland (also known as eccrine gland) overworking and therefore producing increased volumes of sweat under the arms, palms or feet. Hyperhidrosis may affect one area of the body or several at a time. The areas affected are usually constantly moist or damp and therefore tend to affect clothing worn.

Hyperhidrosis can greatly impact your everyday activities and may cause you embarrassment at work and in your social life.

The excessive sweating doesn’t directly cause the body odour but actually it’s the bacteria that harvest in the areas affected- for example at the end of the day you may encounter body odour on your clothes). Hyperhidrosis treatment will help to tackle any form of body odour by reducing the sweating in the first place

What is Botox and how can it help to reduce Excessive Sweating?

Botox is a purified protein known as Botulinum toxin which in the treatment of hyperhidrosis is injected into the skin. Botox reduces excessive sweating as it blocks the nerves that source the sweat glands in our body (stops it from producing sweat). Botox has been used for cosmetic purposes since 2002 but has been used long before that for medical reasons. It is also FDA approved.

How quickly will I see the results following my Excessive Sweating/Hyperhidrosis treatment?

The hyperhidrosis treatment starts taking effect within 7 days but can take up to 14 days to reach its full potential. Occasionally a top-up dosage is added to achieve optimal results.

At Dermadoc Cosmetic Clinic we offer complimentary reviews at 2 weeks post-procedure.

How long does the Botox treatment for hyperhidrosis last?

On average results using Botox can last between 6 and 9 months.

What is required from you before attending your appointment?

At Dermadoc clinic we always advise patients who are due to have hyperhidrosis treatment to have the hair from the armpits removed 24 hours prior to their procedure. We also advise not to use any body sprays or anti-perspirants under the arms.

What are the side effects of this treatment?

Although side effects are rare some temporary; localised redness and swelling is expected following Botox injections. Following the procedure you can get back to your usual daily routine immediately.

What are wrinkle relaxing injections for the wrinkles/lines on the Forehead?

These are Botox injections which help in relaxing muscles on the forehead to reduce the horizontal lines and wrinkles.

What does the procedure entail for treatment of the Forehead wrinkles?

Following a discussion with the Doctor about your aims and requirements, the Doctor will cleanse the forehead using an antiseptic solution. The doctor will then inject a small amount of Botox into the skin of the forehead using a fine needle and technique to minimise any discomfort.

This can vary from person to person however on average we have noted that it lasts around 4 months. We do usually give a range between 3-6 months as an indicator.

How will I look after the Botox injections into the frown?

Many people worry about this but for your reassurance, the most common scenario is that you will notice some very mild swelling and redness at the injection points on the forehead which will settle down within the 45 minutes post-treatment. Most people return straight back to work after having the Botox injections.

If I have a wedding or important event, how long before should I allow before having any treatment?

At Dermadoc we always advise to have your treatment 2 weeks before your major event so that you allow enough time for the Botox to start working.

Can I travel or fly after the treatment?

Yes you can travel and fly straight after the treatment.
