Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are a form of scarring that can appear when your skin is forced to grow quickly. The marks form lines or streaks in your skin and they can cover large areas of your body. Stretch marks can fade over time, but they won’t go away completely. However, laser treatment can help to fade your stretch marks.

Stretch marks happen when your body shape changes quickly, so they can appear if you gain weight, as you grow during adolescence, or when you are pregnant. They most often appear on the stomach, thighs, breasts or buttocks, but they can affect any part of your body. The marks form because your skin isn’t able to grow quickly enough to cope with the growth of your body. The middle layer of your skin, which is known as the dermis, can stretch and break, allowing the lower layers to show through. The stretch marks are purple or red at first, but they usually fade and turn white over time.

Treatments to Reduce Stretch Marks

Laser treatment can be an effective option for fading stretch marks. The treatment can help to eliminate the red or purple colour that makes recent stretch marks so noticeable. During laser therapy for stretch marks, the tiny blood vessels under the stretch marks are targeted. The laser can make these blood vessels collapse, which gets rid of the reddish colour. The stretch mark should look more like the surrounding skin after the treatment, although there will usually still be a faint mark. The laser treatment is safe and painless, but it can take a few sessions to get the results you want.

Other treatments that we offer at our clinic are 3D Radiofrequency Skin Tightening, Dermaroller Treatment and Mesotherapy -which is a treatment involving the injection of vitamins and hyaluronic acid to help rejuvenate the skin.
